Weekly Rotation #6 ~ Rules for Life 11/29-12/04

Hi there Friends, Family and Fellow Crafters! 

Great news! As you can see, this isn't my normal Saturday post following a full week of stitching. The reason for that is ... I HAVE A FINISH!!! Yes, that's right, I have finished Rules for Life by Kincavel Krosses! I finished it last night. This is Finish #5 for 2014! I am loving the progress that I am making on all of my projects by doing this rotation! It is really working out well for me. 

Without further delay, here is my finished Rules for Life! 

Since this piece is finished with a day left to spare in the weekly rotation, I was trying to decide what to work on. I thought about working on one of my other projects. I also thought about starting a new Rules for Life, but in different colors, which I do want to do anyway. I also thought about just starting on Queen Bee a day early. After all that thinking, I decided that just adding the extra day to my Queen Bee rotation is best. 

So next up on the rotation, Queen Bee by Unconventional Cross Stitch!

Weekly Rotation #3 ~ Goonies 11/08-11/14

Hello Everyone! 

The third week of my cross stitch project rotation has come to an end, and guess what!!! I have another FINISH!!! Yes, that's right! I worked on Goonies, and with the exception of framing, Goonies Never Say Die is done! It came out really good. And I am so glad that I decided to stitch white on black instead of the black on white like the pattern called for bcuz it looks tons better. I have some ideas for the framing that I think are going to look fantastic! Stay tuned! So as of right now, I have four finishes for 2014! I am pretty happy about that! 

So here it is ... GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!

So Much Has Been Happening!!!

Hello Everyone!!! 

Wow, I can't believe that I haven't posted to my blog since July! There has been a lot going on, including LOTS of stitching updates!!! First off, I haven't made much progress on the LTT Mermaid. Other projects were a higher priority, I guess. I started a few new pieces and even have a finish! So let's get to the updates, shall we?! 

First off, my new start and finish, is another Ursula Michael design, called Let's Hug Brother. I stitched this piece for my brother and gave it to him this past week when I got to see him again, after not seeing him for 4 years. He has been away and is now back home! The design called for just using DMC 310, but you all know me, and I like to do things differently, most of the time. So I used ThreadworX 1025 for the main color, which is a variegated blue. Then for a few of the phrases, I used ThreadworX 11213, which is a subtle variegated black/gray. And for the frog, I used ThreadworX 11611, which is a variegated green. I also added his name at the top, so that it looks as though it is part of the design. Below are photos of what the original design should look like, what my finished design looks like, and my brother with his gift! 

Next, some of you might know, that September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. So in honor of that fun day, I wanted to work on a piratey themed design. My family and I are fans of the 1985 movie, The Goonies. So I started a design that says Goonies Never Say Die and has a skull with crossed swords. The pattern calls for stitching black on white fabric. Instead, I decided it would look WAY better if I stitched it with white on black fabric. I haven't finished it yet, but it's looking great so far. Below is a picture of what the design is supposed to look like and a picture of what mine looks like so far. 

Next, I joined in on a cross stitch challenge by a cross stitch designer called Unconventional Cross Stitch. She has some fantastic designs! The one for the challenge is called Queen Bee. It's a cute design that is going to look great in my kitchen! The challenge started on October 1st, but due to travelling for a week, I haven't gotten very far yet. But I do love stitching it. Below is a photo of what it will look like and a photo of where I am so far. 

And last but definitely not least, although I haven't started it just yet, my next start will be HAED's Queen of Hearts. It was the first HAED design that I ever bought and it's the one that made me discover HAED to begin with. The reason that I am going to be starting this design is bcuz a very good friend of mine has been working on it. I got her to start working on the Monopoly Game Board. So she says it's only fair that I need to start the Queen of Hearts. I don't have the fabric for the Queen yet, but as soon as I do, she'll be a new start and an addition to my WISP list. Below is a photo of the Queen of Hearts. 

Well, I think that is everything that I have to report for now. Quite the list, I think. I am certainly not going to allow myself to go so long without posting to my blog from now on. LOL!

Another FINISH!!!

Hi Friends & Fellow Stitchers & Crafters! 

I hope you are enjoying your weekend! I am very happy to report I have another finish!!! And this is my very first project that I've stitched that is just for ME! 

Here it is, Let's Be Wicked by Ursula Michael ... 

All that is left to do is to iron it and frame it. I'm going to get a 12" x 12" lime green metallic frame to put it in. I think that will look great with it. Then I plan on entering it into the state fair in October. And then the county fair next April. 

Well, time to prep my fabric and get Mini Mermaid started!

First Finish of 2014!!!

Hello Friends!!! 

I am very happy to report my first finish of the year! See, it WILL be a year of finishes for me! 

Very early Wednesday morning, I finished the WWS Tribal Penguin! And I really think it came out great! All that I have left to do is iron and frame it, but first I must find the perfect frame. I think a white frame will make it really pop. It would be awesome if I could find a frame that looks like ice or ice cubes or something like that. But I haven't ever seen a frame like that, so I'm sure I will use a white frame. Then in April, I'll be entering my Penguin into the county fair! I'm super excited about it! 

Here is my finished Penguin! 

After a few hours of sleep, I started on a project that I have been wanting to do for a very long time and I decided that now is that time. I am stitching the Monopoly Game Board! I only worked on it this past Wednesday so far. So I haven't gotten very far yet. For the border of the game board, I decided to stitch it in DMC 550 purple to make it a little bit personalized, since purple is my favorite color. After I finish stitching the game board, I am going to build a table and put the stitched game board on top and then apply a thick poly coating on top so it will be my permanent Monopoly table. It's going to be awesome!

I am really excited about this project and can't wait to see it finished!

August Stitching: A Finish, Progress, A Start, & Plans

Hello Stitching & Crafting Friends & Followers! 

So here we are, already 5 days into September! Only 111 days until Christmas, and I'm sure that will fly by! 

So I am very happy to show you the finished piece of Coffee Motto that I made for my Grama and her new husband. Here it is before and after matting & framing ... 

You'll remember on my last post how I mentioned about one of the groups I am in on Facebook doing a different White Willow Stitching tribal pattern SAL each month. Last month (August) was the Tribal Cauldron. Since I was using the size 5 cotton perle black floss and had never used it before, even tho I am stitching it on 28 ct evenweave, it is proving to be quite the challenge to stitch with. But I am getting thru it very slowly. This is the only progress I've made on it so far ... 

The pattern that we are doing for the September WWS Tribal SAL is the Tribal Cat. Originally I hadn't planned on stitching this one, but once it was added to the SAL list, I thought why not. I still haven't decided what fabric or floss to use for it, so I'll keep thinking about it. This is what the Tribal Cat looks like ... 

Towards the end of August, I decided to start working on the Kincavel Krosses Rules for Life. My dear friend that passed away, Momma Anna, I showed this pattern to her after I bought it. All the many years we've known each other, she had never asked me to stitch her anything specific before. But as soon as she saw and read the Rules for Life design, she said to me, "I really like this one. Please stitch this one for me." I had never gotten to get it stitched for her before she passed. This of course saddens me. So I am stitching it. And I am going to give it to Momma Anna's daughter after it's finished. I am stitching it on 14 ct light oatmeal aida and using ThreadworX 10342 Earth Stones floss. I think the fabric & floss combination is looking really really good. I'm still doing the border of the design so I don't want to post an update photo yet, but here is what the design looks like, as well as the floss & fabric together right before I started it ... 

Also during all of this, I am also trying to completely revamp and reorganize my entire craft room. That in itself is quite a job & quite time consuming. But it's going to be so worth it once I have it finished.

My Poor Neglected Blog

Hello Dear Friends! 

Oh my goodness, I feel terrible for not having updated my blog in so long! I have done some stitching, but not a lot. This has been a really rough year. Just a few weeks ago, we had another family loss. A very dear family friend, who my husband & I considered to be another mom to us and another grandma to our kids. Just like my father-in-law, it was completely sudden and unexpected. I am deeply saddened and have been an emotional wreck. I wanted to share a photo I have of both of them. 

So as for my stitching, recently my Grama, who is 80 (well 81 as of a few days ago) recently got married again! So I decided to stitch something for the two of them. I thought a traditional wedding piece was not fitting for a "later in life" marriage such as theirs. So instead I found a cute pattern that was designed by a friend on Facebook. I posted that I was going to stitch it and how I was going to add my Grama's and her new husband's names on the coffee cups, and the designer loved the idea and said she would make a few changes to the original for me. She added hearts and put their names on the cups and it looks perfect! I am stitching it on 14ct fiddlers light aida. So that is one of the pieces that I'm stitching at the moment.

Also, I am in a Stitchalong (SAL) where each month we are all stitching a different White Willow Stitching Tribal pattern over the next year. This month's pattern is the Tribal Cauldron. I have only stitched a little bit so far as I'm really trying to get my Grama's gift finished first. I am stitching it on 28ct opalescent white evenweave. For the cauldron, I'm using a black cotton pearl to create the texture of a cast iron cauldron. I have never used cotton pearl floss before. So it's definitely been interesting to stitch with. For the potion bubbles, I am using Canon Waterlilies 153 Distant Hills, which is a 12 ply hand dyed silk. The Distant Hills color is a green/purple variegated floss, which I think will look perfect! 

Here is a picture of what the Tribal Cauldron design looks like. 

On the Cauldron, I don't really have enough progress completed in order to post a photo yet. But I will soon.

For the project for the Sandy Hook Elementary quilts, after designing all of the patterns, I stitched the one for the school, and then others stitched the individual patterns. The finished squares that I have seen pictures of, have turned out beautiful.

Surprise Gift FINALLY Delivered!

Hello Stitchers, Bloggers & Crafters!

I am very happy to report that I was finally able to hand deliver the football helmets birth announcement piece to my friends! I was getting worried at first bcuz the frame that I had thought would be perfect was WAY to big. So it was a mad dash off to store after store to find the perfect frame and at long last, hiding in a corner, I found it! I was so relieved. Then it was home to get the piece framed and wrapped and then off to the baby's first birthday party!

And they loved it ... even with the Chicago Bears 'C' on it (lol).

I am both happy and relieved that they liked it so much. I wanted to create for them something very unique and special that they could always treasure. They are awesome people & I love them!

Finished the Xmas in July SAL piece

Hello Everyone! Not a whole lot to report today. I am still working on HAED Hold on to Hope. But I would like to finish the page I'm working on before I post an update. However I have finished the Xmas in July SAL piece that I have been participating in. We did one square per day for the 25 squares and today is July 25th, so we're finished. Karen at Sunshine Stitches made such a pretty pattern and I really enjoyed doing this SAL. It has been a lot of fun. It was exciting waiting each day for the new square to be added to the pattern. And each square was such a quick stitch that it didn't take anytime at all to get it done. I do highly recommend checking out Karen's blog here, Sunshine Stitches. She has some great patterns that she has designed and are for sale also. 


And without further ado, here is my finished Xmas in July piece!




So what do you think? I still have to get a frame for it and everything. But I really like how Karen let us choose whatever colors that we liked. It was nice to have that creative freedom to help make her design our own. I don't know if I am completely happy with the colors I chose. But I do have the pattern saved so that I can stitch it again and again if I want.

A Finish & One Stitching Goal DONE!

Hi Friends and Blog Followers!!! 

YAY!!! I have my first stitching finish of the year! It only took me half of the year to finally get it finished lol. 

But here it is ... my very unique Football Helmets Birth Announcement for my very dear friends! :) I am so excited about this piece and cannot wait to hear how my friends like it. I'm going to include a note attached to the wrapping paper that they have to call me before they open it so that I can hear their reaction. Or they can use a webcam or a video chat app on their phones lol.

I still have to wash, iron & frame it. I have a really pretty white frame that I think it going to look really nice with this piece. Once I have it washed, ironed & framed, I will post another photo. So what do you think? :) 

Now I can get busy with HAED's Hold on to Hope. I started it this past Saturday afternoon while we were at a party for my son's baseball team. But I was only able to really get in a few stitches.

Another Finish & a Couple of Updates!

Hello Friends and Fellow Stitchers and Crafters! 

It's been a while since I've posted and I realized I forgot to post a photo of my second finish of 2012! I crocheted a scarf for my son and have put it away for the holidays. :) I think it turned out pretty good. I think he's really going to like it ... well at least I hope he will.

So what do you think? I hope this photo posts correctly. I used PhotoBucket and used their program to adjust the size of the photo. But they changed they way their website is set up and I kept getting an error message. And even though the site showed the additional copy of the photo, saved to the new size, I'm not so sure it actually did save to the new size. 

Anyway, so I did attempt to get Elemental Cosmos finished in time to enter into the county fair for this year, but with all of the kids activities both in and outside of school, and the time it takes to stitch on black evenweave (SO NOT easy), I was not able to finish it in time. So I put it back on the back burner, temporarily, while I work on the birth announcement piece that I designed for one of my best friends and her husband. I was making some good progress on it, and then I discovered a mistake. That mistake caused me to have to take out a bunch of stitches. I am just about finished re-stitching all that I had to take out, without the mistake of course. 

Here is where I'm at with that piece at the moment ... 

It's coming along and I hope to be finished before the end of the week. Again, I'm not sure if the size of this photo will show up correctly. I hope it does. :) 

As I said, I also worked on Elemental Cosmos a little bit. So I thought I would post a photo of my progress on that as well ... 

It's coming along slowly. You can see where the stars are that I added the beads. Do you think it looks alright? As for the size on this photo, I started playing around with sizing photos on PhotoShop and then uploading them to PhotoBucket and maybe this will help.

Just a Little Finish ...

Hello Friends ~ 

I forgot to post this before but wanted to share with you my first finish of the year. It's just a small ATC, but at least it's something. I think it turned out pretty cute and I hope the recipient likes it. The theme was Irish for March. 

So what do you think? Think she'll like it? The backstitching of the letters is in DMC Light Effects to give it a little bit of flair.

September ATC Finishes & One Received ...

Hi Stitching Friends!

Yes it's me again, coming to you with my September ATC finishes and also a picture of the one that I have received so far.

So the themes for September were ...
Cross Stitch ATC's ~ Letter 'B' and Flower Power
Addicted to Cross Stitch ATC's ~ Pigs

For the Letter 'B' one, I wanted to do something different than just a pretty girly typical letter B. So I have this book with kids theme alphabets. And there is this one alphabet they call "Creepy Crawly". I saw that and thought to myself, "oh yeah this is the one".

So here is how it turned out ...



It was my husband's idea to add the "splat" stickers LOL. The lady that received it thought it was great and said that her son REALLY loved it! LOL!

Then for the next theme, Flower Power, I knew the second I read that theme exactly what I was going to do for it. The only problem was I knew the pattern was larger than normal. But it was such a perfect pattern that I HAD to make it work.

And here it is!



In order to make this design fit on the 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch card stock, I had to stitch this piece on 22 count aida. The smallest I have ever stitched on before was 18 count, so this was definitely different. I used only 1 strand of floss for each X. And the main green color called for 2 different colors of floss combined. So what I had to do for that was I did the first half of the X in one color and the other half of the X in the other color. The second color was a DMC Light Effect light green color. The silver on the piece was also a DMC Light Effects floss. I hadn't used that before, but believe me, my Thread Heaven came in very handy. So what do you think of it? I had to admit, I wanted to keep this one for myself LOL! A lot of the ones that I have been seeing others post are just of flowers, which are all very beautiful. But to me, "Flower Power" is best represented by stuff from the 60's. :~)

The other theme, Pigs, seemed simple enough. But when going through my leaflets and books, I was surprised to see that I had hardly any pigs patterns. But I went online and found a pig that I thought was both cute and different.

And here she is! ...



I think she turned out pretty cute, don't you? After stitching with 1 strand of floss on 22 count aida, switching back to 14 count aida with 2 strands was really weird lol! I wasn't sure at all how to embellish this one, so I just added the pink rhinestones. My husband said I should have mounted the piece on some "mud brown" cardstock, but I didn't have any, so this was the next best thing I think. What do you think?

So those were all the ones that I have done for September. My favorite out of all three is definitely the Flower Power one. But I did have fun stitching all of them.

So far, I have received the Flower Power one for the month of September. It is absolutely beautiful!



The lady that sent this one to me crocheted the flower in the top right corner herself! Isn't it cute?! I couldn't do that in a million years lol!

So I have still to receive the Letter B and Pig for September. And then the Pay It Forward exchange once it gets around to me. And then sadly, I have still yet to receive an Oriental theme ATC from back in May. Apparently there was some sort of a mix up when the emails were sent out and one lady received two Oriental theme ATC's and I received none. :~/ But it's ok. I really do love all the ones that I have received! :~)

So now I am all done with ATC's until Octobers themes come out. I am REALLY looking forward to those! :~) October is my favorite month of the year and Autumn is my favorite season!!! Should be lots of fun! :~) With this ATC break, I'm going to get busy on finishing Henry since I've had to put him off for so long with my MIA glasses issue and such. I can't wait to get him back home to his owner.

And with that I'm off to do some stitching!

August ATC Finishes & Ones Received ...

Hi there Stitching Friends!

Yes, I am still here, alive & kicking. I have been stitching away on the cute lil ATC's. And sadly, been neglecting my poor blog. But no more! I have A LOT to post for you! :~) First in this post I will add my August ATC pieces that I did and also the ones that I received. Then I'll add another post for September. Sound good? Well here we go then!

So August's theme was Mother's Day and Father's Day for the Facebook Cross Stitch ATC's group. And for the new ATC group on Facebook, Addicted to Cross Stitch ATC's (yes I definitely fit right into that group!), the theme was Birds of a Feather.

Ok, so for the Mother's Day and Father's Day themes, it could be anything that you would basically stitch for your own Mom and Dad, because not all the women or the one guy in the group are moms or a dad. So I found a couple of cute patterns and started stitching!

Here is what I stitched for the Mother's Day and Father's Day themes ...





After I had finished and mailed the Father's Day one off, it wasn't until after the person received it and I had the pic posted up on Facebook, that I realized ... uh duh, football season is not in June! Ok, so I had a blonde moment lol. The ladies that received both these pieces really liked them. Out of the two, the I ♥ Mom one was my favorite. I think I might have to stitch another one to send to my Mom next year for Mother's Day! :~)

For the Birds of a Feather theme, they said it could be any kind of bird, real or imaginary or cartoon. So, being the Looney Tunes type of girl that I am, the first thought in my head was, you guessed it, TWEETY BIRD!!! :~D I really had fun with this one and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE how it turned out. As of today, the recipient still hasn't posted if they've received it, so I really hope this one isn't lost in the mail. It was going all the way to Australia, and I'm not sure how long first class mail takes to get there from here in the states.

Anyway, here's Tweety!



Isn't he just way too cute?! All the ones that I've seen people posting, all of them are real birds. I was surprised that I didn't see more people that did Tweety or any other cartoon birds for their ATC.

So those are the ATC's that I stitched for the month of August. And now I'll show you the ones that I received for all three themes ...









They're all very cute and I just love the way each person chose to embellish them! :~)

Oh and in case, any of you are wondering, the Pay It Forward ATC exchange is still going. Although no one seems to be admitting who has it at the moment. I haven't received any messages yet asking if I'm participating in it or not. But when I do, mine is all ready to be mailed out! :~)

Another ATC Finish & ATC Received ...

Hello Stitching Friends!

So happy to report that I finally got my new glasses last week & they are great! It's so nice having my eyes back. And I just love the purple frames!

Anywho, so last week I finished an ATC for a Pay It Forward theme the group is doing. This one won't be mailed out for a bit yet, as I have to wait until someone else sends me one. The group moderator put together a list of all of the people that have participated in the ATC exchange previously and picked one pattern. Then she selected someone to start this exchange off. She gave her the list of people and posted the link to the pattern. Then the person stitched and mailed off the PIF ATC to someone on the list. Then that person does the same, until everyone on the list (that wants to participate in this exchange) receives one of these PIF ATCs. No one has picked my name off the list yet, but I have my ATC all finished & ready to go. And here it is ...



What do you think? Again, everyone will stitch the same pattern, and then the only differences will be the cardstock it is mounted on and how it is embellished. It's a cute and simple pattern. I hope the person that receives mine likes it. :~)

Also, I wanted to share with you all the ATC that I received from the person that I did the private ATC swap with. It is just beautiful!!!



I just love the cardstock that she used to mount the pattern on. It fits the theme perfectly, I think. Don't you?

So for August, the group themes are Mother's Day or Father's Day. But then after a couple of people posted how they are not parents, the moderator posted that it could be something you would give to a woman and something you would give to a man. Lots of choices with those themes. It took me a couple days to decide on patterns. But I think I came up with a couple of good ones. Also, one of the members of this group started another ATC group so those of us that are really hooked on these ATCs can stitch and receive even more of them. To start off there is only one theme, and for August the theme is "Birds of a Feather", which basically is any bird ... real, cartoon or imaginary. :~) Should be fun. Still have to find which pattern to use for that one. But I have a couple in mind already. :~) Once I get them finished, I'll post pics! :~)

Another ATC Finish

Hi there friends & fellow stitchers!

I haven't been doing a lot of stitching as you know from my previous post due to my MIA glasses. However, the ATCs are easy enough to at least do some stitching. And I am very happy to report that I have had my eye exam and will be ordering my new glasses on Thursday!!! And the best part ... I still have single vision! YAY! You know I really think that stitching helps strengthen the eye muscles rather than making them weaker. My eye doctor was actually very impressed at how healthy my eyes are and that I am no where close to needing bifocals. :~)

Anyway, I finished another ATC! There were no themes for the ATC group on Facebook this month, so I did a private exchange with one of the other ladies in the group. Each of us didn't receive one of our ATCs back in May. It's so disappointing when you take part in something and then someone else doesn't hold up their end. So I never received my oriental theme ATC and the other lady never received her letter C. So she is stitching an oriental themed ATC for me and I stitched a Letter C for her. :~) I really hope she likes it. The alphabet that I chose to stitch from is really pretty and very girly lol.

So here it is ...



I wasn't sure if the stickers go well with it or not. What do ya'll think?

Well time to finish up another ATC. The leaders of the ATC group decided since we weren't doing a theme for July that we would do a "Pay it Forward" thing where one person will get a list of all of the people that have participated in an ATC exchange in the past. She will stitch an ATC and then send it to one person on the list, as well as sending her the list. Then the next person will do the same. And this will continue until everyone on the list has received an ATC. Everyone will stitch the same pattern for the ATC. I have most of that finished. Just have to do the backstitching and then mount it on card stock and add any embellishments that I'm going to use. Then once I get the list, all I'll have to do is mail it off to someone on the list. :~)

Two More ATC Finishes!

I have finished 2 more ATC's! I'm really excited about them and love how they turned out. Can't wait to hear how the recipients like them. I'm putting them in the mail today and then they will make their way across the country and ocean over to the UK. I really hope they like them.

The first one is the theme Letter N. I wanted to pick a letter N that was sort of different and something fun. Here is what I came up with ...



Isn't it cute?! I think it falls in both the different and fun categories don't you? I love the bright colors.

The next theme was FIFA. This was a bit harder to find a pattern for. Although I wanted something more than just a soccer ball, it was what I ended up doing. But I still like how it turned out.



What do you think? I think the black cardstock background makes the rest of it really pop.

Aren't they cute? I just love the Piglet Letter N! And the bear playing soccer is adorable!

Our ATC group on Facebook is not doing an exchange for July. But I'm really looking forward to August! I still haven't received my oriental theme ATC from May. Apparently there was a mix-up and it was unknowingly sent to the wrong person. Hopefully it will find it's way home to me soon. :~)

Now to get some work done on some of my WIPs! So much to stitch and so little time ...
